Car ads from across the globe:

In one of the most competitive industries across Australia, car makers are in a constant battle to produce entertaining ads to build brand recognition and become top of mind for you when it comes to your new vehicle purchase.

And, thanks to the creative minds of some of the best ad agencies in the world we’ve found some greatest car ads from a huge range of manufacturers to share with you. So sit back, grab yourself some pop corn and settle in to see our Top 10 car ads from Australia & the world!

1. Football, Meat Pies, Kangaroos & Holden Cars

Why we like it: This ad was iconically Australian and one of the most popular ads of its time, anyone who grew up in the 70s will know it. The ad depicts a laid-back and fun-loving Australia and the jingle aims to appeal to your sense of patriotism, while getting stuck in your head. We guarantee that you’ll be singing, humming or tapping the tune by the end of this ad…

2. Toyota Rav4 Ad – Happy Together

Why we like it: Originally aired in New Zealand, Toyota NZ created a crazy, far fetched TV ad in the vein of the movie “War of Roses”. It was entertaining and made us laugh so for this reason alone we just had to include it in our top 10!

3. Hyundai – ‘Smaht Pahk’

Why we like it: What’s not to love? This Superbowl ad not only features the hilarious John Krasinski, Rachel Dratch & Chris Evans (all Boston locals) but gives a tongue in cheeky nod to the New England Patriots who were playing the 2020 Superbowl. The timing is whip-smart, the improv gags are on-point and we just love the “ghost cah,”. Its a big tick from us Hyundai!

4. Jeep Gladiator – Groundhog Day

Why we like it: Guess who’s back? Back again? We love this ad and Bill Murray reprising his role as Phil Connors from Groundhog Day is advertising GOLD. This time though,  a Jeep Gladiator co-stars to spice up the deja vu sequences. Anything with Bill Murray gets a tick from us!

5. Toyota Hilux – Buggar Ad

Why we like it: Over the years Toyota has given us some entertaining ads, but we think one of their best would have to be the Hilux ‘Buggar’ ads of the late 1990’s. The ad targeted Aussie buyers perfectly featuring hilarious farming mishaps with every incident provoking the same response ‘Buggar!’ or ‘Buggar Me!’ I’m sure most of us remember this one – check it out below and you’ll see why it was so great for its time!

6. Chrysler 200 – Eminem Superbowl Ad

Why we like it: While it’s more like an American short film, we like it because it somehow manages to touch your heart. The theme of the ad is one of pride, but its hard to ignore the bleak images of Detroit that suggest the decline of a once proud and great city… with Eminem’s Oscar winning hit “Lose Yourself” thumping in the background, there’s something about this ad that made us want to include it on our list!

7. Mitsubishi Outlander – Obstacles

Why we like it: Who doesn’t love an obstacle video? We loved this one because it shows off the style and handling of the Outlander. The slow-motion filming of the ad demonstrates the precision of the obstacle course and you just want to know what’s coming up next. Originally created in Africa but shown to the Brazilian market, this Outlander ad had us looking for more…

8. Hyundai Genesis – Dad’s 6th Sense

Why we like it: Another one from the Superbowl; this ad managed to strike a cord with its audience and consumers receive an entertaining feature demonstration of the Genesis during this cleverly created story of parental protection. Dramatizing near misses – Hyundai have cleverly likened dad’s protection to the Genesis’ safety features. Smart creative with  great execution!

9. Kia Sportage – Grow Up, Not Old.

Why we like it: Grandmaster Flash. Enough said.

Seriously though the tune is as catchy as you can get and Kia manage to target their demographic perfectly, with a 30 something family man off to buy nappies in his new Kia Sportage. Watch the video below and we challenge you not the utter or hum the words to the rest of the day! “Don’t push me, cuz I’m close to the edddgeeeee…”

10. Subaru Impreza – 100’s & 1000’s

Why we like it: Subaru know their target audience, they know that there are literally hundreds and thousands of obstacles that city driving will throw at you. They’ve produced a one in a million car with amazing control and grip, ergo the hundreds and thousands.
